Since its launch in February 2023, Prama’s Charity Superstore has been making a real difference in the lives of older adults. Not only is it generating vital income for Prama’s support services, but it’s also helping raise awareness about the needs and aspirations of older adults across Bournemouth, Christchurch, Poole and East Dorset.
A Busy Start with a Big Impact
Aaron, Head of Retail Operations, shared his excitement about the Superstore’s success:
“We have been busier than we anticipated – with customers and donations, which is great. With our fixed pricing on our clothes, we have customers that visit all of our shops and we have seen them at the Superstore. We’ve also attracted new customers who love our low pricing. We also sell furniture, which we can deliver too.”
Supporting Dementia Groups Across the Region
Thanks to the generosity of shoppers and donors, Prama has been able to expand its reach and continue delivering crucial services.
Chris, PramaLife Programmes Director, said:
“The generosity of Prama customers is helping the charity to sustain and develop its network of 19 weekly or biweekly support groups for people with dementia and their carers.”
These support groups offer meaningful activities that promote health, well-being, and connection, such as:
Memory-focused sessions using objects, sounds, and scents to stimulate recall – like the aroma of spring flowers.
Quizzes and visual exercises based on classic films and cultural references from participants’ younger years.
Music sessions that encourage singing and stir happy memories.
Since opening the Superstore, Prama has delivered 146 group sessions, supporting 1,505 individuals living with dementia and their carers – more than double the pre-pandemic numbers.
