Over the last couple of weeks Janine and Jacqui from our recruitment team had the pleasure of attending 2 of our Pramalife groups. They attended a Musical Memories group in Oakdale and the Young at Heart group in Upton. The aim of these groups is to bring people together for some light entertainment, socialising, and refreshments.
The Musical Memories group featured music and singing, tea and coffee and quizzes. It was a heart-warming experience that reminded us how much simple activities can brighten someone’s day. There were instruments on the tables and scarves to be twirled to the music.
When we arrived at the Young at Heart Group the hall was already buzzing with cheerful conversation. Tables were set out neatly and volunteers were busy serving tea, coffee, and biscuits as guests arrived. Many of the older attendees seemed happy to be out and about, chatting and reconnecting with familiar faces. The atmosphere was friendly and relaxed right from the start.
The event began with a couple of games of Bingo. This was definitely one of the highlights of the day — the excitement in the room grew with every number called. Many of the participants were seasoned bingo players and took it quite seriously, but in a fun way. There were small cash prizes for the winners, which added to the enjoyment. The volunteers kept things running smoothly, making sure everyone could hear and take part, Jacqui even had a go at calling the numbers, although the members decided that Bridget, the usual caller, was more skilled in calling out their lucky numbers!
During the break that followed, more tea and coffee were served along with slices of cake and sandwiches. We helped pour tea for some of the guests and had a few lovely chats. Several people told them how much they appreciated events like this, especially those who live alone. It was touching to see how something as simple as a cup of tea and a chat could make such a difference to someone’s day.
The afternoon ended with a live performance by a local singer. She sang a mix of classic songs from the 1950s to the 1970s, and the crowd loved it. Many people sang along or tapped their feet to the music, and some even got up to dance. The performance created a wonderful sense of joy and togetherness that brought the whole event to a perfect close.
Overall, attending this event was a truly uplifting experience. It reminded us of the importance of community and how meaningful it can be to spend time with others, especially those who may sometimes feel isolated. The laughter, smiles, and music made it a special afternoon, we left feeling grateful to have been part of it.
