At PramaLife, we know that caring for someone can be both rewarding and challenging, as a result we provide a variety of support to carers including:

FOCUS Carer Support Scheme – Friends Offering Carers Understanding and Support

The FOCUS Carer Support Scheme (funded and supported by BCP Council) offers a compassionate and comprehensive service to help you feel supported and connected. This is a free service available to carers looking after someone in the Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole areas, offering:

Befriending and Mentoring:

Connect with a friendly face who understands your journey. Whether through regular phone calls or in-person meetings, our befrienders offer companionship and a listening ear. For those needing more tailored guidance, our mentors—experienced carers themselves—provide practical advice and emotional support.

Carers Supporting Carers:

Our FOCUS monthly support groups are a safe space where you can share experiences, gain a sense of perspective, understand transitions/future developments, develop and sustain friendships.

Signposting and Resources:

We provide essential information and guidance on accessing additional services. If we can’t directly help, we’ll point you toward the right resources to ensure you get the support you need.

Confidential and Respectful:

Your privacy is our priority. All our communications are confidential, ensuring you feel safe and respected in sharing your concerns.

Carers Supports Groups

PramaLife has developed a network of support groups for carers across the conurbation of BCP and East Dorset. The groups are welcoming and enable carers to learn about what support is available to them locally and to support each other in their caring roles. We know that peer support means a lot to the carers PramaLife works with.

Here is just some of the feedback we have received from the carers who come to PramaLife’s groups:

Friendship and caring. Great support at times of stress with my late husband. We all appreciate the ongoing help.

It has helped with socialising with people who are in the same position.
Friendship, comfort, information, shared experiences, laughter and time off from caring duties.

Everything! They are here to support me when I was going through a difficult time with my husband’s Alzheimer’s. I have met all the lovely carers and I am close friends with a few in particular. We meet outside of our group on lots of other days.
Great support, very good company and fun, friendly warm and caring and I meet up with carers outside of the group.

Friendship, support, encouragement, advice and sympathy. I am about to become a volunteer.

It means a lot to me, I have made very good friends. When I have had a bad time they have been very good for me. I look forward to coming every month, I will be unhappy if I could not go.

We organise regular group meetings in the following areas;

Alderholt
Christchurch
Crane Valley
Ferndown
Moordown
Poole
Redhill
Southbourne
West Parley
Wimborne
Winton & Upton
